Airway Dentistry And Benefits Of Straightening Teeth Early In Kids

Back in archaic times humans used to have straight teeth with no decay. As society progressed over time, we have adapted away from breastfeeding to bottle feeding, and eating more foods that are soft in diet at a younger age. This adaptation in diet and way of feeding has influenced the way our jaws and teeth grow causing weaker chewing muscles and a recess in the lower third of the face. A smaller jaw causes more teeth crowding and less space for the tongue to sit resulting in a restricted airway. This growth pattern eventually leads into what we know today as sleep apnea. According to the Journal of the American Orthodontic Society, 9/10 children suffer one or more symptoms of sleep disordered breathing.
